About Us
Cotton-By-Post Quilt Shoppe started as a mail-order business fifteen years ago in 1994. After two years we opened a little (700 sq. ft.) shop with 375 bolts of cotton fabric in the village of Ailsa Craig, Ontario.
After seven years we were bursting at the seams and we needed to find larger premises. The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce moved out of the village and put their large 5000+ sq. ft. building up for sale, so …… we bought the bank! I was worried that we wouldn’t be able to fill it but, three years later we had over 5000 bolts of cotton fabric, a large variety of notions, lots of books and patterns and two sewing machine dealerships - Bernina and Pfaff.
In September of this year we expanded by opening a new shop called North End Sewing Centre in north London on Richmond Street specializing in Bernina and Pfaff sewing machines and sergers. We also offer a large variety of threads and notions. Then in December the shop right beside us on Richmond Street became available for rent so … we leased it, had an archway put in between the two shops and on January 5, 2009 we opened Cotton-By-Post II Quilt Shoppe.
We have a fabulous large classroom in the new location where we hold workshops for all skill levels in sewing, quilting, tailoring, fashion and home dec., not to mention, our on-going “Mastering Your Sewing Machine” lessons and monthly Bernina/Pfaff Club. There really is something for everyone!
